gold geometric buttons

hey there fashionistas! i hope your holidays went well.

did you watch the macy's parade last week? i got up to watch a bunch of it with the family, and as ashley tisdale came on to sing "last christmas" i couldn't take my eyes off of her attire. whoever dressed her did a great great job! her hat was uber cute, especially the gold chain matching the gold buttons on her trench coat! the louis vuitton cashmere scarf also gave it a nice finished look. but, i must say, i could not take my eyes off of that coat, it was gorgeous!

also, i couldn't tell what designer it was. the buttons were large, with geometric details, not significant of any designer to the best of my knowledge. but..

on black friday i went to the mall for dinner and some shopping, and as i walked into the new barney's co-op store i was struck by this gorgeous marc by marc jacobs wool trench (in hot pink!) with gold buttons. it was the same coat ms. tisdale had worn at the parade. and, let me tell you, it was just as striking in pink as it was in black.

if you can find this online or get your hands on it, i do believe it is worth every fashionista's penny! it's a great find that will never go out of style. gotta love a classic!

classic festivities for the holidays

there's a turkey in the oven, and it's smelling really fine.

that's a little turkey day poem my father and i used to recite to each other this time of year, back in the day when i was a little kiddie.

i love the holidays. everybody is in such a good mood, the winter weather starts coming in. now, i'm not much of a cold fan, but i am a snow fan!! i love the snow.. especially as a proscratination tool when i don't feel like studying for finals.

tonight i had dinner with my best friend and her family. thanksgiving came up and we started talking about where we were going and what we would be doing, etc. and then i explained that i had bought my thanksgiving day outfit in august.

yes, august.

well, i got a few confused looks from across the table. my family usually gets dressed up for holidays. the guys wear sweaters (not the corny holiday kind, but the classy half-zip cashmere kind), the girls wear pumps and skirts, etc. it's like a classy holiday, not a corny holiday, which is fine because it works for us. and whatever festiveness we don't cover in our attire, we make up for with our giddy, excited conversations and holiday traditions.

i cannot wait for thursday evening. i hope that the weather is crisp fall weather, in the high 40's and not windy. (but if old man winter decides to come around, i am all for 15 degrees and 2 feet of snow.. only because i adore snow on holidays!!) still, high 40's are ideal for my outfit..

it's so classic and sophisticated. i've been waiting a very long time to wear it.

even though i do not believe that fashion should ever be sacrificed.. sweats are not a part of my wardrobe, i guarantee.

i must say though, i agree... "stay away from the elastic at the ankles." and, according to christine ebersole "there is a movement of sweatpants into mainstream trousery wear." hahaha

custom costume

"halloween is the one night a year when girls can dress like a total slut and no other girls can say anything about it"

...taken from the popular movie, Mean Girls, Cady Heron, played by Lindsay Lohan, learns that dressing up as a witch, pumpkin, or anything even slightly related to this holiday is seen as taboo. instead girls conform to the masses and the costumed population is split up (pretty evenly) between nurses, referees, cheerleaders, school girls, and some sort of western cowgirls. pre-packaged costumes generally rule the masses, making each bumble bee you see seem more and more unoriginal.

instead, i say, do something unique and different. why would you want to look everybody else? fashion is an expression of individualism. find an inspiration and go with it. something from pop culture, something that interests you, or just something funny.

some of the more interesting (and usually simple) costumes i have seen include:
--a twister board.. so original and cute!
--a pineapple.. sounds weird, i know, but it was sparkley and adorable
--the devil wears prada.. from last year but very ingenious
--the spice girls.. a great idea because they're back on tour

hey there fashionistas! we are in the heart of fall.. despite those 70 degree days much of the country is still experiencing. i know, it's crazy. but every now and then when autumn peeks its chilly nose out, some of the most adorable fashions appear on campus.

of those, some of my favorites are; pashminas wrapped around the neck, tights, long sweaters, and hats!!

hats are really in right now. and some of my favorites starting showing up in movies (like 'the devil wears prada') and tv shows a while back. my favorite type of hat is the pageboy hat. it comes in a plethora of fabrics and colors. it's very versatile, it works when dressing up and for days that aren't quite as formal and jeans and a t-shirt is what you decide to wear.

i am also a huge huge fan of the beret. okay, so you're probably thinking, 'what has , i had one when i was little and wore it only because my mom forced it on my head. but ever since last winter, i have been on a mission. trying to find that perfect balance between stiff and sloppy. a black beret with form but not so floppy or so stiff that it looks like i'm in the army. berets will soon be hitting the fashion front.. expect to see this in magazines, around campus, and in movies and such.
